Here at 8th Step a lot of our focus has been on Comedy shorts as of late. First with "Greenwash Gang" in the Fall of 2008 winning "Best Director" in the Edmonton film festivals 24/one challenge. This was followed up more recently with an AMPIA nomination for best short made in Alberta in 2008. We then continued on the comedy route in the Calgary Underground Film festivals 48hour film making challenge with "Juantourage" which won best over all short film by audience vote. We continued to shoot another, as of yet unreleased, short with the working title "High Stakes" about a deadly poker game. Apart from shooting these shorts Scott Townend has been busily writing. So far with a feature length script completed and ready to shop around, as well as a short film script which sets up the feature. We plan to shoot the short in the summer of 2009. Other scripts are also in the works including most recently a feature length script about time travel. Half way through the first draft it will still be while before we are in production on that one, but keep tuned in for updates.

Aside from comedy and time travel we have also been keeping busy with numerous corporate projects. It has been a pleasure working with other production companies such as Stingray Pictures, along with some amazing clients on all sorts of video productions. We have also been fortunate enough to get involved with some feature length projects as well. First with Carlito Ghioni on his feature length documentary "Unforgotten" and most recently with Isaac Thomas shooting some last minute shots as Isaac and Stingray Pictures finish the rough cut.

We are also currently working on a project titled "The Road To Guatemala" which is a documentary 8th Step is producing, directing, and editing. The documentary will follow 4 cyclist on their incredible journey from Edmonton Alberta, to Quetzaltenango, Guatemala as they raise money through sponsorship for a clinic called "Primeros Pasos" at their final destination. This incredible story of 4 determined and selfless human beings should prove to be an amazing documentary once completed. Our Crew will follow the cyclists from Edmonton to the US border at which point they will be sent off on their own with only the bags on their back, and some smaller hand held camera's to complete the journey. We have also recently completed work with with the University Of Alberta's "Heifer In Your Tank" show out in Camrose, a government job with Stingray Pictures out of Calgary, as well as Post work on the ING speed skating challenge for the Olympics. We are looking forward to a good spring filled with new projects, and more comedy shorts.
